Lock 92 Overhead, Rochdale Canal, Manchester
Details
Shot from directly above Lock 92 on the Rochdale Canal in Manchester, this long exposure captures the rushing water as two fans of motion spreading from the lock gate. The wooden structure divides the frame symmetrically, its geometry anchoring the blur beneath it. The monochrome conversion strips away colour and lets tone and texture carry the image. A slow shutter preserves highlight detail in the water while retaining depth in the darker channels below. The overhead angle turns a piece of industrial canal infrastructure into near-abstract geometry.
