Spinningfields at Night, Manchester

Spinningfields at Night, Manchester

Details

A night shot looking along one of the pedestrian passages in Spinningfields, Manchester. Bare trees along the left edge are strung with festoon lights, creating a corridor of warm blue light that leads the eye towards the heritage tower visible at the end of the passage. The contrast between the modern glass and steel of the Spinningfields development on the right and the older masonry tower in the background places two eras of Manchester in the same frame. The empty passage strips the commercial district of its usual activity and lets the lighting carry the composition.
