Town Hall Colonnade at Night, Manchester
Details
Shot at night along the covered colonnade at the rear of Manchester Town Hall, this uses the receding line of arches to create strong perspective that pulls the eye deep into the frame. The closest arch fills the foreground, while each subsequent opening diminishes towards a vanishing point at the far end of the walkway. Ceiling-mounted lights within the colonnade provide the only light source, casting an even warm glow across the stone. The vertical format suits the height of the arches, and the slight upward tilt of the camera emphasises the scale of the stonework against the dark sky beyond.
